Gable Roof

A gable roof is a basic, popular type of roof with two sloping sides that meet at the highest point, called the ridge, forming a triangular shape. It’s often seen in houses, garages, and sheds.

Parts of a Gable Roof

The ridge board is the horizontal beam where the rafters meet at the top of the roof. It supports the rafters and helps distribute the roof’s weight.

Fascia

Fascia is a horizontal board attached to the edges of the rafters. It creates a clean appearance and provides support for gutters.

Soffit

The soffit is the underside of the roof’s overhang. It helps with ventilation and keeps insects and animals out.

Different Types of Gable Roofs

Side Gable Roof

A side gable roof has two equal sloping sides that meet at the ridge in the middle, with the triangular ends facing the front and back of the building.

Front Gable Roof

A front gable roof is similar to a side gable roof, but the triangular end faces the front of the building. This design is often used for aesthetic purposes.

Cross Gable Roof
