Insulation granulate consists of anorganic insulation materials in the form of granules. For roof insulation purposes we usually use peat, perlite or vermiculite granules.
Peat (in Europe called also Liapor)
Peat (Liapor) is made of expanded clay and therefor has the same properties as any ceramic material (sustainable, good thermo-insulating properties and very heavy - the weight of such insulation ranges from 500 to 1800 kg/cubic meter). As the peat grains do not absorbe water they are also frost-resistant.
Perlite
Perlite is the vulcanic mineral. In the process of perlite insulation granules poduction, the perlite minerals are ground into the form of powder then heated to...
Mineral wool is an artificial insulation wool made from anorganic materials (unlike the natural wool from sheep). We know two basic types of mineral wool insulation:
Mineral glass wool insulation
Mineral Glass wool cosists of silicon sand (can be partly replaced by old glass), sodium carbonate, feldspar, limestone and dolomite. It is markedly yellow, you can distinguish it very easily.
Rock wool insulation (rockwool insulation)
Rock wool consists of minerals like basalt and dolomite and it is of green-yellow color. Rock wool is good fire retardant (survives temeperatures up to 1000 Celsius degree). Both above minarl wool types offer great thermo-insulating properties. The p...
