Unusual Roofs - Two Curiosity Houses In Thorpeness, Suffolk, Uk
As the village sign anticipates, there are at least two houses in Thorpeness, Suffolk (United Kingdom) worth visit.

| The Thorpeness village sign |
The first one is the
"House in the clouds" a curiosity building converted from the old water tower. Originally, the building consisted of a 5-storey house and a water tank hidden in the house-like box with the pitched roof.

Later, when the village was connected to the standard water supply, the tank was removed and the house-like structure was remodeled serving as an additional acommodation. The house used to be called "the Gazebo" but people renamed it later after the romantic poem of the former homeowner.
The
village windmill is the second architectural curiosity and visitor attraction of Thorpeness.

| And the windmill and waterpump |
The windmill was built in 1824, 2 miles away from Thorpeness, in the village of Aldringham.
It was bought by Scottish playwright G. Stuart Ogilvie (owner of the Thorpeness village) in the 1890s and in 1922 and 1923 it was dismantled and moved to Thorpeness, where after reconstruction it pumped the water into the water tank hidden in the "House in the Clouds".
