Troubles With Asphalt Roofing 1, The Bituminous Glues
For sure, the connection point where the
asphalt shingles meet the
gutter system belongs to the most problematic parts of any roof shingled with asphalt shingles.
These connection points must be treated with either bituminous or silicon
glues.
Bituminous glues and coatings
The bituminous or asphalt glues are great but they are not very stable if exposed to the ultraviolet radiation for longer time.
If the bituminous glues or coatings must be used on the visible areas (where they have to face the UV radiaton) they must be covered with the sand or mineral granulate.
The overlay of the asphalt roofing over the gutter line must be at least 100 milimeters (or 4 inches) and the flashing material used must provide the same durability as the roofing material.
Asphalt roofing ventilation
Another very frequent problem source is the non-existing (or inadequate) ventilation.
This must be solved in the very early phases of the roof planning and designing as the roof that is not vented enough means mildew augmentation and can cause even the destruction of the whole roof later.
