Timber Roof Beams And Trusses
The basic material for the
roof truss construction is (and always will be) the wood.
Wood represents a unique material for beams and trusses as it is:
- very stable but flexible material;
- doesnīt extend when hot or shrink very much when cold;
- wood is a great natural insulation material;
- doesnīt corrode;
- if impregnated properly, it is a reliable and quite fire resistant material.
Usually a
natural timber is used for building the roof trussess but in fact it is not necessary to cut new trees always. These days, the roof truss manufacturers more and more often use also the
plywood truss or the recycled scrap wood materials truses as they inherit the invaluable wood properties and their production is very cheap.
Remember that the wood roof truss and the wood beams
always have to be chemically treated before covered with the roofing to protect it from wet, insects, decay and mildew. This is usually done already by the wooden material producer who dips it into the pool with the impregnation fluid. The fluids usually are of green or blue color which means that you will only hardly use them in the visible parts of your ceiling.
If you plan to use your
timber truss as a decoration as well you have to use the special protective varnishings (usually they are more expensive but almost as reliable as the blue or green fluids).
Thereīs lot of notoriously used roof truss types and I will get back to this topic later to describe them.
