Spring Roofing Inspection Checklist

Visually inspect the roof. It is necessary to use the roofing ladder this time, otherwise it is not possible to detect problems in the areas that are hidded when watching from the ground level. It is also recommended to clean the rof off all visible leaves, twigs, pieces of mortar etc. before starting the inspection.

Damaged or loose shingles

If there are just few, replace them with new shingles. If larger areas are damaged it will be necessary to re-roof;

Rusty stains on the metal roofing

If only few, clean the rust and protect it with the anti-rust paint. Again, if large areas are corroded, re-roofing should be considered;

Asphalt shingles with granular cover

Check the color consistency of the roof. The darker areas indicate the protective coating of the shingle has worn. Also all the exposed nails anticipate the potential leaking problems in the future;

Valleys, ridges, drip edges - critical parts of the roof

Sagging, loose shingles, rusty flashing - they all indicate future problems;

Flashing around the chimney, vents and skylights

Flashing should not be moved, displaced or curled. If it is it´s necessary to fix it.
