Roof Window Types

Compared to vertical sidewall windows, both vertical dormer windows and slant roof windows undergo worse conditions. High temperature (during summer the roof can heat up to 88 Celsius degrees, which is temperature high enough to cook the eggs), freezing and snow in the winter, wind, rain, dust. The demands are really high and make the roof windows manufacturers keep on developing always better and better windows.

The roof windows typology

There are following (basic) roof window types:

- hopper windows (bottom hinged windows or top hinged windows);
- swing windows (center hinged windows);
- combination of the above (more expensive);

Roof window materials

The most used material is wood (lamelled pine tree wood) combined with aluminum flashing.

The wood has great mechanical, insulation and aesthetic properties but it is a natural material and therefor it needs to be properly impregnated with quality varnishes.

The aluminum or copper sheeting requires almost zero maintenance.

Roof windows blinds

The roof window blind can radically reduce the heat in the under-roof space.

The quality black plastic exterior awning can absorb more than 60% of the heat before it enters the room.

When choosing the window blinds you shall discuss with your supplier all their properties. They can recommend you the most suitable roof window awnings but need to know whether you want to reduce the light or the heat (different materials better).
