Mineral Wool Insulation
Mineral wool is an artificial insulation wool made from anorganic materials (unlike the natural wool from sheep). We know two basic types of mineral wool insulation:
Mineral glass wool insulation
Mineral Glass wool cosists of silicon sand (can be partly replaced by old glass), sodium
carbonate, feldspar, limestone and dolomite. It is markedly yellow, you can distinguish it very easily.
Rock wool insulation (rockwool insulation)
Rock wool consists of minerals like basalt and dolomite and it is of green-yellow color. Rock wool is good fire retardant (survives temeperatures up to 1000 Celsius degrees). Both above minarl wool types offer great thermo-insulating properties. The problem with their usage appears if the often get wet as they after dome time loose stability, thickness and shape and crumble away.
Phenol-phormaldehyde resin
As the binding compound, the rockwool insulation manufacturers (and mineral wool insulation manufacturers in general) use the phenol-phormaldehyde resol resins. Total volume of the phenol-phormaldehyde resin in the mineral wool insulation effects the features of the final insulation material (stiffness, solidness, fragility).
Rock wool boards, glass wool quilts,...
Based on the above mentioned features, the rock wool or glass wool insulation is supplied either as rolled insulation quilts or as mineral wool boards. Both are extensively used with the sloped roofs these days. They can also be applied in the form of bitsy mineral wool granules, as the blown-in insulation.
Work with certified cellulose insulation equipment
When working with fiberglass requires you must be cautious as the insulation fibres can be airborne and inhaled can cause mesothelioma cancer just like the asbestos. Actually, this is not asbestos or fiberglass only problem. Any slaughing material producing microscopic sharp fibrils is potentially dangerous. Working with glass wool or rock wool insulation, rather use some certified glass wool insulation equipment (nsulation blow in equipment, work safety equipment, mouth screen, glasses etc...).
