Cellulose Insulation
Unlike the mineral glass wool or rock wool, the cellulose insulation belongs to the organic insulation materials. It si manufactured from the waste cellulose, tearing it up a chemically treting it in order to repel insects, mildew, fungi and various rodents.

In the cellulose insulation two insulating factors work together. It is the insulating ability of the wooden fibres themself and another insulating factor is the air kept between the cellulose fibrils.

Cellulose insulation can be applied as the spray cellulose insulation or the blown-in cellulose insulation.
Chemical treatment of cellulose insulation
Cellulose insulation is made of recycled paper treated witch low toxicity fire retardant chemicals (borax and boric acid)to achieve the fire-resistance as the natural cellulose is flammable. Both above chemicals also help cellulose insulation to repel insects, mildow and rodents.
Work with certified cellulose insulation equipment
Just like the insulation fibres or asbestos also the cellulose powder can be airborne and inhaled can cause mesothelioma cancer. Working with it you have to use some certified cellulose insulation equipment (insulation blow in equipment, work safety equipment, respirator, glasses etc...).
